About Campus

Alaska Pacific University: Anchorage, Alaska

The campus is a world unto itself, with no through roads. The Alaska Pacific University campus in Anchorage is one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States, with the Chugach Mountains rising up behind nearly 200 acres of lawns, woods, and University Lake.

Campers will be staying in nice dorms at Alaska Pacific University. Each room has 2-6 beds available with individual private shower facilities. These rooms are not air-conditioned and we suggest you bring a fan. The cafeteria facility provides an all-you-can-eat salad bar with fresh fruit, hot entrees with beverage, sandwich and cereal stations.

The college food service provides multiple all-you-can-eat entrees for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Gyms, cafeteria, and dorms are all within close proximity creating a great family atmosphere for campers.

NBC Camps has partnered with University of Alaska Anchorage to continue to provide superior coaching and basketball instruction. Training by college coaches and use of UAA's outstanding basketball gym will give campers access to one of Alaska's premier athletic universities.

John Stene is currently at Grad School at MSU in Bozeman, where he is getting a secondary education teaching certificate. John has a degree in English Literature and Spanish from Pacific Lutheran University in Washington. John has been with NBC Camps for 11 years as a camper, International Tour member, master teacher, Tour coach, and Site Director. John looks forward to the opportunity to work with campers each summer. "It is a tough game and a tough world. NBC Camps has changed my life, teaching me the fundamentals of the game that I love, and more importantly sharpening my character and faith. I believe this is an experience that changes kid's lives every day." John is from Big Timber, Montana.

Timothy Beauregard

Assistant Site Director

Tim has an AA in Small Business Management, Business Administration, Social Skills and Science, and General Studies. He is currently working on a BA in Entrepreneurship from CSU Fresno State. Tim has been the assistant coach for the Lady Sunbirds Basketball program at Fresno Pacific University. He has worked with NBC as a coach, master teacher, and assistant site director. Tim can be found at NBC Alaska, and at NBC Montana as a master teacher. "The best way to spell words like trust and love is T-I-M-E, and to me there is no better teacher of this than the game of basketball. Basketball teaches our youth such things as leadership, teamwork, effort, and dedication, which make the sport bigger than a sport—it makes it an outline for success. NBC brings people together and gives us, coaches, a great layout for working with young athletes and using basketball to build confidence both on and off the court. NBC has given me the opportunity to grow in ways I had never thought possible. Each summer only serves to increase my passion for teaching, learning, and basketball as a whole."

Shannon moved up the NBC chain from camper to coach and to her current position as the office manager for the Montana site and APU. She recently graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana with a degree in English Creative Writing and Literature. Shannon comes back to camp year after year because, “In today’s society, we have to train ourselves, push ourselves, to rise above the negative undertones of the world we live in. At times we suppress our beliefs, our skills and our words to avoid persecution. NBC instills in campers the confidence to step out of that mentality and to be true to themselves, to excel in moral virtue. We tell campers the same thing as their families because we truly believe the power in those principles: be respectful, do the right thing and be safe. You don’t need to be the star of your high school team to come to camp; you just need the desire to learn.”

Krehg Perez

Krehg Perez is currently pursuing a degree in education at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Krehg is a life long Alaskan who has previously been an assistant coach on the successful Heritage Christian high school team, and is currently an Assistant for the Men's Basketball Program at the Division II UAA. Krehg has worked for NBC as a Coach and Master Teacher for the past three years. "NBC has been a great place I believe that they really bring the fundamentals back to the game of basketball. So many times you see athletes just struggle with the basics. NBC shows the importance of the little things and helps build successful players not only on the court but off the court as well."
